Picture Most people at some stage in their lives begin to lose their hair - some
people lose more than others and it affects both men and women.
It is very common nowadays to have a transplant, but first we need to ask
ourselves why we lose it before committing to a hair transplant cost which could be in the thousands of (£) or ($).

When it occurs it is quite normal for us to ask ourselves, why do we lose hair?

Well, at any given time an average of 90% of hairs are actively growing at a rate of about 1 centimeter (less than half an inch) every four weeks and each hair has a growth cycle of between a couple of years up to about six years. The remaining 10% doesn't grow and begins to fall out after a few months and the growth cycle continues.

Generally, human hair is being replaced all the time, but is very slow for the hair on your head. But what causes it beyond the normal process of growth?

Stress is a major factor in hair loss especially caused by the stress after an illness or surgery. It has been proven that stress is related to it and I also believe it plays a part in the process in of hair turning grey. Although proven, it is not known exactly how stress is linked to it.

Baldness or male pattern baldness is a condition which is very common and is a long term condition. It occurs in men after a certain age, it can usually be after a man reaches his early twenties. It is a genetic condition where hair from the hair line slowly retreats backwards, leaving no hair at the front of the hair line. However, hair loss depends from person to person.

The thyroid gland is often responsible for short term loss. A thyroid which is over or under active can lead to this and male or female hormones which are unbalanced have also been linked. These are known as androgens and estrogens. An example of unbalanced hormones is during and after pregnancy.

It is also important to make sure you treat your hair well. If you do not take proper care, this can lead to hair loss. For example, certain styles or not cleaning your it properly is possible to lead to premature hair loss. Excessive use of grooming products can also lead this.

Hair loss is not a simple equation - these are just some of the reasons. There could be many other reason for it, but it depends on person to person. I once noticed a round (about 1cm in diameter) of baldness on the back of my head. I only noticed it after I had a haircut. I thought it was very strange so I went to see the doctor and was prescribed with a cortizone fluid which I put of my head twice a day and the hair started to grow again. This was several years ago and have not had this problem ever since. I do not suffer from hair loss and my reason for explaining this is just to show that there could be many reason for hair loss. I still do not not know to this day why the small round baldness on my head appeared.

I hope this helps you understand some of the reasons why hair loss occurs in humans and I hope it helps you decide whether you want to go ahead with a hair transplant despite the expensive hair transplant cost.visit us at
